Hello, and welcome! I'm Marie-Marie, a graduate student in counseling with a deep passion for supporting individuals through their mental health journeys. As someone who comes from an immigrant background and has navigated my own personal experiences with mental health, I bring both professional training and lived understanding to my work.
I believe that healing looks different for everyone, and that a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space is the foundation for real change.
Counseling approach
My practice is rooted in Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers. This approach holds that every person has within them the capacity for growth and self-healing — my role is to walk alongside you, offering empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuine presence rather than directing or prescribing. 86% of people report that therapy helped them cope with what they were going through, 50% by 8 sessions, 75% by 6 months — showing steady improvement over the course of treatment.
I also draw from Career Construction Theory (Mark Savickas), which helps clients explore how their life stories, personal interests, and values shape their career and identity development. I believe our work and our sense of self are deeply intertwined, and 90 studies confirm it — career adaptability is consistently linked to stronger career identity, job and career satisfaction, and lower job stress across a large body of research. I incorporate this lens when supporting clients through identity and life transitions.
Areas of focus
I am especially drawn to working with individuals navigating:
- Anxiety & depression
- Identity & self-esteem
- Immigrant & acculturation experiences
- Life transitions
- Couples, relationships, infidelity
- Monogamy & non-monogamy
Experience & training
I am currently completing my graduate program in counseling under clinical supervision. My training includes coursework in multicultural counseling, mental health assessment, career development, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches. I am committed to ongoing learning and culturally responsive care, as it has been shown that culturally adapted mental health interventions targeted to a specific cultural group, compared to generic, non-tailored approaches is 4 times more effective. Additionally, I am committed to supporting my queer community, as 99% of LGBTQIA+ young adults in an affirmative therapy program said the intervention felt relevant to their lives.
"I believe that being seen, heard, and understood is one of the most powerful forms of healing."
